Diverse marine life, healthy coral reefs, and plenty of ways to get into the water, The Caribbean keeps you away from the hustle and bustle of large groups of divers, with good visibility and the common sightings of those sought after sharks and turtles. …
Warm, clear waters (20 – 28° C across the year), and powdery sand beaches welcome the diver to the Caribbean.
With diverse marine life offered by healthy coral reefs, and shore and local boat diving being the popular methods to get into the water, The Caribbean provides a relaxed atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of large groups of divers, with good visibility and the common sightings of those sought after sharks and turtles.
With the majority of dive sites being within a 10-15 minutes boat trip from the shore, this is convenience at its best. The laid back atmosphere is perfect for an uncrowded dive, and this continues back on shore – coconut palms on powder sand beaches, reggae, salsa and calypso music on the breeze, and a tropical cocktail in hand – Just Perfect!
Unlike a lot of other popular dive destinations, the majority of the hotels in the Caribbean offer true all-inclusive accommodation. High quality food and drinks on a 24 hour basis means that the true costs of your scuba diving holiday to the Caribbean are known well in advance – it is well worth that extra couple of hours in the plane to experience a real holiday destination with quality underwater life.
From Cuba in the Northern Caribbean to the Islands of Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago in the Southern Caribbean, there are numerous scuba diving destinations to choose from, all offering excellent diving facilities and sites.
The vast majority of these island destinations are also served by well known scheduled airlines, taking away the headaches of baggage allowance restrictions! Virgin Atlantic for example allows divers booking through The Scuba Place to take 34kgs per person, and Cubana on flights to Cuba from the UK allows our customers to take 40kgs of baggage per person.
The variety of diving in the Caribbean provides an ideal underwater landscape for all levels of divers – gentle dives in clear, warm and calm waters with fantastic coral and marine life for the beginner, to challenging drift dives, awesome wrecks and deep walls with plentiful pelagic encounters. Learning to dive couldn't be easier too – accreditation bodies such as PADI, CMAS and ACUC are found everywhere, and BSAC dive centres are common too.
Bull sharks, manatees and friendly giant grouper, awesome wrecks dotted all over the sea bed in Cuba, plentiful turtles, wrecks and marine reserves perfect for photography in Barbados, nurse sharks in Jamaica, and UNESCO world heritage reserves in St Lucia are just a few of the attractions. The Caymans have some amazing wall diving, and the Bahamas offer lots too, including the famous shark feeding encounters. The Dominican Republic also has incredible diving, and the shores of Mexico, Cancun and The Grenadines, together with Aruba and the Spice Islands are world famous for the quality diving they offer, combined with fantastic holidays facilities on land too.
With relaxed and unique cultures, minimal language barriers to overcome, scheduled flights and gorgeous resort hotels offering quality accommodation with specialised diving facilities added into the dive holiday, the Caribbean is a must for any discerning dive traveller.
