Book your scuba
If you decide to book a scuba diving holiday in Grand Baie, you will be ideally based to explore a wide range of diving sites along Mauritius' north coast. Coral gardens, reefs, dramatic walls and wrecks, this is one of the best diving areas on Mauritius.
The seaside village of Grand Baie (or Grand Bay) is located in the north of the stunning island of Mauritius. It is famous for its beautiful tourist beach and sparkling emerald waters, but this is also an excellent base for scuba diving. The choice of dive sites is excellent here and dive centres in the Grand Baie area will introduce you to the best and most suitable sites for your level.
The warm, clear waters of the Indian Ocean host an incredible variety of marine life and you will see all kinds of creatures on your underwater journey. The Aquarium is, as its name suggests, is abundant with fish such as stone fish, giant triggerfish, snapper and solider fish, as well as moray eels, octopus and many other species. This large sandy site is particularly good for underwater photography.
Mauritius' vibrant coral reefs and gardens are inhabited by a plethora of marine life, and the colours and diversity is breathtaking.
Some of the best sites to observe a myriad of hard and soft coral species include Coral Gardens, Marengo, Confetti Bay and Jolie Corail, amongst others. These diving sites also host a huge diversity of sea creatures, from slugs and sea anemones to exotic fish and turtles.
Wrecks provide interesting underwater playgrounds for divers of all levels of experience, and Mauritius has its fair share. Stella Maru, a Japanese fishing trawler suck in 1987 is a popular diving site. Surrounded by beautiful coral banks, this site is inhabited by giant moray eels and other marine life. Other wrecks worth exploring include twin wrecks Water Lily and Emily, the Silver Star and Jabeda.
If you need training during your scuba diving holiday in Grand Baie, local dive centres provide highly qualified dive instructors to guide you through all your requirements. Beginners can develop their skills in the training pool, whilst Open Water training is conducted at sea. Whatever your level of experience, Mauritius' majestic underwater world offers unlimited exploration for all.
