Located about one mile southeast of Nueva Gerona in a countryside location surrounded by woods on the eastern bank of the Las Casas River, the Isla de la la Juventud villas are a fabulous hotel complex built around a swimming pool and designed in post-modernist Cubist style, making bold use of the local gray marble hewn from the nearby mountains that peak over the treetops.

Standing in a peaceful and picturesque setting, this villa-style hotel offers guests enjoying Cuba holidays in Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth) with a good variety of recreational activities, trips, excursions and organised visits to places of cultural and historic interest, such as the Model Prison (where Fidel spent some time before the revolution triumphed and where he wrote his famous book "History will Absolve Me")

The focal poin of this villa hotel revolves around the swimming pool, which draws local families on weekends, when the music gets cranked up and outgoing guests party with locals. Facilities here are basic but sufficient. There's a plain restaurant with grey marble sparkling underfoot, plus a small games room.

The 20 air-conditioned and spacious bedrooms are divided in two-story blocks, each consisting of four separate units. Although rooms were recently refurbished to serve foreign tourists, they're still very basic and functional, with simple rattan decor, so this would suit the no-frill adventurous traveller or the enthusiastic backpacker. Guest rooms are equipped with standard basic amenities including: air conditioning, en-suite bathroom, satellite TV, telephone, radio, mini-bar and terrace or balcony.
