It was recently revealed that English top model Kate Moss, gave up her attempt of overcoming her fish phobia as she turned down the opportunity of getting certified as as scuba diver during her scuba diving holidays in the South of France.

It looks like Kate Moss' dreams of overcoming her fear of fish have been dampened as the top model celebrity held off from obtaining her scuba diving certificate after she got freaked out of the possibility of encountering big scary fish (especially sharks) during her voyage underwater.

As reported by UK tabloid newspaper, the Mirror, Kate who is currently enjoying scuba diving holidays in the South of France with her new husband Jamie Hince plus a group of friends, planned to take up the fascinating and thrilling sport of scuba diving when at the last minute she backed down amid fears of what she might encounter deep beneath the ocean's surface.

After reportedly confusing a big fish for a shark, and thus earning her friends mockery and nickname of "Skate Moss", Kate, 37 pulled out of her scuba diving course before obtaining here scuba diving certification.

According to sources she was keen to pass the training to obtain the formal scuba diving qualification but suddenly got terrified of the prospect of seeing big scary fish swimming next to her.

"Kate has been snorkelling before and dived a bit. She was keen to get a formal qualification, did some of the classroom-based stuff and was really getting in to it. But then she got convinced she was going to bump into a giant, scary fish - possibly a shark - and began to get nervous," - a friend of hers was quoted as saying. " When a school of tropical fish swam past Kate got a bit terrified by one of the bigger, grey ones. Pals were calling her ‘Skate Moss’ all afternoon, joking she’d stumbled across a giant skate.

But as reports reveal, there seems to be another underlying cause to her pulling out of her diving dreams, and it had to do with alcohol. Seemingly, the famous and sometimes controversial British supermodel, ended her scuba diving dreams after she was told she had to remain T-total 24 hours before a dive.

After being warned that drinking alcohol during the 12 hours prior a dive increased the chances of excess nitrogen in the  body and decompression sickness, Kate Moss, drew her conclusions and thought it better to leave things as they were for the moment, putting here scuba diving dreams on hold.

Friends of the star revealed: "The final straw came when she was told she shouldn’t touch alcohol within 24 hours of a dive as it would dehydrate her.

“Obviously the yacht she’s staying on is filled with vodka and champagne, and the gang like nothing more than sunbathing on deck with a chilled beer or a class of bubbly.

“But the prospect of getting the bends terrified her, so she’s put the certificate on hold.”

Certainly, over-indulging in alcohol is never a good idea when enjoying scuba diving holidays, so if Kate wanted to enjoy her bubbly during her holiday, her initiative to pull out of her diving course in time was indeed a wise move. Whether or not she manages to overcome her fear of fish is yet to see, but scuba diving is a great way to do just that and it can prove the right therapy and treatment for many scared of the ocean or those with a fish phobia (scientifically known as ichthyophobia). Scuba diving lessons are known to help many gain confidence in the water.
