La Sirena (the mermaid) - Guardalavaca

Leaving the dive centre, this dive site is approximately 10 minutes by fast boat. Dropping off into the clear waters on top of the reef (8-10 metres deep) as you descend you are more than likely to spot Giant Grouper, up to 6' in length.

These huge fish swim sedately below you until they see you alongside of them, and then they come up really close (within 1 metre) and investigate the neoprene clad visitors to their realm.

They stay with you for the whole dive, swimming alongside you or just behind – just like a buddy – as you explore the top of the reef.
As you descend over the reef edge to the wall, the drop-off is amazing and slopes away to 50+ metres below you, and accompanied by your new friends, you dive along the wall, which is teeming with marine life, and smothered in soft corals.

Large barrel sponges, whips, fans, feathers and the like all sway in the gentle current – don't be surprised to see a turtle here too!
Giant green morays, some 3 metres in length, have forgotten hat they are supposed to live in the cracks and crannies in the wall, and swim freely in the open. Again they are inquisitive, and come and check you out – up close and personal!

Schools of large snapper, lionfish in huge numbers, goatfish, hogfish and yellow tails all populate this wall, but the macro life is plentiful too. Arrow crabs, nudibranchs and several types of flatworm are also visible on the sponges, and wherever you go, the grouper will follow!

A great dive – plenty of depth for those that want it and a healthy reef on top of the wall alive with corals, fish and crustaceans wherever you look. All with great visibility too!
