Scuba diving expert, Jason Haiseldon, is planning to break the world record by coordinating a mass dive with 3,000 volunteer scuba divers off the Purbeck coast in the UK whilst raising money for charities such as the RNLI and Swanage’s Heroes Haven.

Jason Haiseldon from Swanage in the UK is putting his scuba diving expertise to the test by coordinating a mass dive off the Purbeck coast this September, to try and break a world record.

In 2009, the Indonesian navy set the current world record by successfully coordinating 2,486 scuba divers in the water at the same time, and Haiseldon is hoping to break this record by gathering 3,000 divers for the UK event.

Haiseldon is from Swanage, UK, and has over ten years of scuba diving experience where he has organised scuba diving holidays for charity in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

The cold British waters might not match up to the warm waters Haiseldon is used to during his past scuba diving holidays in Indonesia or Thailand, but this particular event is in aid of the RNLI and Swanage’s Heroes Haven, where he hopes to raise £15,000 for both charities.

“I hadn’t done very much UK diving until I moved here, as I love colourful reefs and marine life,” Haiseldon said.

“However, I completely appreciate just how good the diving is here in Swanage. It has a great reputation in the UK with the dive community."

“The environment off the Jurassic Coast and Purbeck in particular is just a dream. On a clear summer’s day you feel you could be on a Greek Island.”

The scuba diver runs an online Liveaboard booking system company, called ScubaClick, and is confident that the world record can be broken.

A spokesman from ScubaClick said: “To make an attempt on any world record requires immense planning, support and money.

“Jason has spent many months putting together risk assessments, having numerous meetings with safety advisory groups and Swanage Town Council. The council, while initially somewhat cautious, have all been very supportive and have given their full approval and backing for the event.”

The scuba diving event is scheduled to take place on 24th September 2011 off the Swanage coast, depending on the weather, and the scuba diving adventure will be celebrated with a bar, live music and diving-related stalls at Sand Pit Field.
