A new local beer created in the Cayman Islands and aimed at scuba divers is being launched in the Caribbean nation. A small percentage of the sale of the new "White Tip Lager" beers will go directly to help fund shark conservation projects and research.

Just a few days ago we published a story about how Kate Moss dropped out of getting scuba certified due to a scare of fish and a fear of prolonged soberness (apparently), as she learned she had to abstain from drinking alcohol for some hours before the dive, and now we can present an innovative alcoholic drink from the Cayman Islands, especially created and designed for divers to enjoy after a scuba diving session.

While mixing diving and drinking is never a good idea and it's widely recommended that divers be completely T-total for 12 hours prior a scuba diving immersion, there is certainly no problem with enjoying a cool beer afterwards. And it is in this small niche market precisely that a local brewery in Cayman Islands has tapped to introduce those enjoying scuba diving holidays in the Caribbean islands to the White Tip Lager, a beer specifically targeted to an audience of recreational scuba divers.

Taking the initiative to capitalise on the amount of visitors who go to the Cayman Islands to enjoy scuba diving holidays, the new White Tip Lager is, according to officials from CayBrew; "the world's first conservation lager", specifically created to appeal to the community of enthusiastic scuba divers with the secondary aim of spreading shark research and conservation awareness. While it's primary function might be to satisfy the thirst of divers, while sipping away divers will also be contributing to a noble shark cause as the brewery, in conjunction with the Cayman Islands Department of Environment, will donate five cents for every can of White Tip Lager sold to shark research and conservation projects in the islands.

Highly appealing to scuba diving fans all over the world, and especially targeting those fascinated by the amazing sea creatures who come to the Cayman Islands to enjoy swimming with sharks and attending shark feeds, the new beer will allow them to feel like they're giving back to the ocean as some of the profits are spent in efforts to try and preserve the species and their eco-systems.

The Cayman Islands are famous for the fantastic scuba diving opportunities its various islets and keys provide to the intrepid and curious diver, including some of the world’s most spectacular wall diving, wrecks and Stingray City – voted by National Geographic as the world’s best shallow dive. With the launch of the new "shark-friendly" beer it is hoped that White Tip lager will appeal to visiting divers as well as locals as well as putting the Cayman Islands among the top scuba diving destinations in the Caribbean for shark encounters and shark-friendly conservation efforts..

Shark conservation is a project that’s been going on for a couple of years now. We’ve been going around the islands surveying sharks and looking at threats to the shark population locally.” - were the words from Matt Cottam, from the islands’ Department of Environment.
