Scuba diving holidays in Freeport, Bahamas

The Bahamas is one of the most beautiful places in the Caribbean and a world-class diving destination. If looking for an underwater adventure, book a scuba diving holiday in Freeport, and enjoy some of the most exciting dive sites in the archipelago.

Freeport is a city in Grand Bahamas, one of the northernmost islands in the Bahamas archipelago, and the major point of entry for visitors to the island. One of the most popular activities to enjoy here is scuba diving, which is world-renowned in the Bahamas.

There are some excellent dive centres in Freeport, and a wide range of diving opportunities to choose from. Whatever your level of experience – from complete novice to professional diver – experienced diving instructors will introduce you to the most appropriate sites. Further training and qualifications are also available if required, and equipment is provided.

The Bahamas is famous for its exquisite coral reefs, which are inhabited by an amazing variety of marine life, but one of the biggest attractions has to be the spectacular blue holes found scattered throughout the archipelago. Combined with exciting tunnels, caverns, walls and shipwrecks to explore, as well as clear turquoise waters which offer excellent visibility, it is no wonder these beautiful islands are so popular for diving.

Diving sites around Freeport range from shallow to medium and deep. The shallow sites vary between 15 and 40 feet, enabling divers to enjoy close encounters with hundreds of multi-coloured tropical fish such as parrotfish, trumpet fish, butterfly fish and angelfish, as well as moray eels, sting rays rays, octopus, turtles and a myriad of other sea creatures. Some of the best dive sites off the coast of Freeport include the famous Shark Alley, a 45-foot-deep sandy area which is frequently visited by Caribbean reef sharks; White Sand Ridge, a calving area for Atlantic spotted dolphins, and Ben's Cave, a spectacular sinkhole located in the beautiful Lucayan Caves National Park.

It has been described by "Scuba Diving" magazine as the most popular cave dive in the Bahamas so is certainly worth a visit. Experienced divers can explore deep sites such as Theo's Wreck, a 230ft. cement freighter that lies in 100 feet of water, and exciting underwater caverns such as Mermaids Lair, Crystal Caves and Pygmy Caves which are adorned with vibrant corals, sea fans and sponges. Thrill seekers can also take a trip to Tiger Beach for a close encounter with tiger sharks. This is just a handful of the dives sites available around Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Whether you are a beginner embarking on your first dive or an experienced diver looking for new challenges, a scuba diving holiday in Freeport is a must for anyone looking for underwater adventure in paradise.
