Scuba diving holidays in Somerset, Bermuda

Somerset Island, one of Bermuda's main islands, which comprises around half of Sandys Parish in the northwest of Bermuda, is an excellent base for a diving holiday because some of the most exciting dive sites in the area are easily accessible from here. Sites vary form shallow reef dives such as Blue Holes, where you will find two adjacent holes connected by a vast number of tunnels to explore, to historic wrecks such as the Lartington, a cargo ship that sank after hitting a reef in 1879.

Other wrecks around Somerset include Constellation and Montana, two wrecks that sank in the same area but 80 years apart, and L'Herminie, a French freighter that became grounded on Bermuda's treacherous reefs in 1838. 58 out of the original cannons remain intact here, as well as two anchors and several weapons, so there is plenty to see. A large number of reef fish and barracuda reside here, amongst other fish and marine species.

Beginners will find areas such as the popular Somerset Long Bay a great place to start diving, where the warm, shallow waters host a wide variety of sea life.
