Visitors and residents of Manly in Australia will be able to explore the coast's beautiful diving sites as the conservation group, EcoDivers, offer a guided, underwater scuba diving tour of Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve next weekend.
The conservation group, EcoDivers, is offering local residents and visitors of Manly in Australia the chance to discover the breathtaking local diving sites with a guided underwater tour of Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve.
The scuba diving tour will take place on 22nd January 2011 at 10am and will be followed by presentations and discussions at Manly Community Centre between 12pm and 2pm.
Dave Thomas, founder of EcoDivers, explains that visitors on the scuba diving tour will join volunteer guides and experience a range of marine species across the beautiful bay. Dave commented: "On a good day, you will see over 100 species of marine animals."
The event is taking place as part of Manly Council's "Keeping Our Oceans Alive" campaign which will feature panel discussions and workshops.
EcoDivers is a conservation group based on Sydney's northern beaches that operate clean-ups, surveys, research, projects, community education, marine animal rescues and underwater photography and videos.
The scuba divers group specialises in coastal and "in-water" clean-ups along the North Harbour area and the Northern Beaches including manly, Mosman, and Shelly Bay, and often bring back large amounts of rubbish including plastic bags, bottle tops, polystyrene foam, rubber bands, balloons, ropes, floats, nets, buoys and fishing debris. The group also take part in Clean Up Australia Day and International Clean Up Day to help remove the huge amounts of rubbish which are a danger to turtles, whales, dolphins, seals and birds.
Cabbage Tree Bay is situated at Fairy Bower Beach Manly and was declared an aquatic and underwater reserve in 2002 under the New South Wales Fisheries Management Act. The area covers 20 hectares of parkland, bush and ocean waters and is a protected reserve with the aim to conserve biodiversity.
The aquatic reserve is a popular attraction for travellers on scuba diving holidays and the bay is popular with paddle boarders, swimmers, wave ski riders, kayakers, surfers, snorkelers and scuba divers.
