Blue Planet Scuba launches first "Carbon Neutral" diving travel experiences

Travellers taking scuba diving holidays in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia will soon be able to explore the local waters with carbon neutral dive trips provided by the new scuba diving organisation, Blue Planet Scuba.

A new scuba diving organisation has been set up to provide carbon neutral scuba diving holidays for travellers visiting Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland in the United States.

Blue Planet Scuba will be offering carbon neutral diving trips by sponsoring carbon reduction and clean energy projects which will reduce carbon emissions.

The dive company has been set up in Dupont Circle in Washington DC and have teamed up with TerraPass, an organisation which helps companies and individuals reduce their carbon emissions.

Blue Planet Scuba will be providing carbon neutral scuba diving holidays by offsetting the carbon dioxide emitted from flights, hotels with farm power, wind energy projects and landfill gas capture.

The new organisation believes that as well as helping towards the prevention of global climate change, the offsets will be contributing towards sustainable travel.

One of the main aims of Blue Planet Scuba is to offer scuba divers educational and travel experiences to divers and tourists across the region while "harnessing the excitement and adventure of scuba to help protect the fragile oceans".

Divers will have the chance to explore diving sites across the region and the first excursion launched by the new organisation is a trip from 18th-22nd February 2011 to Cozumel in Mexico where visitors will discover the delights of the stunning marine life.

The company offers diving tuition and certification as well as travel experiences and their website states: "We are committed to helping people connect to the life in our oceans and foster awareness of the threats facing this globally essential ecosystem. Blue Planet works closely with environmental organizations and local communities to foster sustainability. We recognize that our oceans are being ravaged by pollution, coastal development, over-fishing and global warming and believe that active, informed divers can help restore the health of our planet's ocean."
