The 35th Women Divers Hall of Fame has welcomed 10 new members at a recent event which was held in New Jersey, and included a local Grand Bahama scuba diver, Cristina Zenato, who is one of just a few shark-feeders in the world.

A scuba diver from Grand Bahama has been honoured in the 35th Women Divers Hall of Fame at a recent event in New Jersey.
Cristina Zenato is one of ten women who were welcomed into the prestigious group of female scuba divers, recognised for their pioneering and unique skills within diving communities and oceanic conservation efforts across the world.

Christina started diving with Underwater Explorer’s Society (UNEXSO) in 1995 and is now the Dive Team Manager of the internationally-renowned dive organisation.

The scuba diver is one of just a few shark-feeders in the world and she has had the opportunity to explore numerous diving sites during her time as a certified cave diving instructor. Her escapades have been highlighted in numerous scuba diving magazines including Advanced Diver, Rebreather World, and Earth Illustrated, as well as movies and documentaries. Christina has also been listed in the International Legends of Diving and is an Scuba Schools International (SSI) Platinum Professional.

“It was a great honour to be nominated and inducted, especially because I enter an elite circle of women who have been my inspiration for years,” said Cristina.

The scuba diver is seen as an inspirational guide for young residents of Grand Bahama Island and is actively involved with dive training, shark conservation and awareness presentations across the region.

“This honour is now helping me assist in fundraising efforts to heighten ocean conservation efforts. This weekend I will travel to LA to present at a fundraising event to help efforts to save our oceans.”

During the 35th Women Diver Hall Of Fame celebrations, Céline Cousteau, granddaughter of world famous diver Jacque Cousteau, was also honoured and Cristina spent some time with the fellow scuba diver.

“I was in awe, standing shoulder to shoulder with the leaders in our industry,” Christina added.

“They were so welcoming and I am just amazed to have had the privilege to meet them and now to work with them.”

The Women Divers Hall of Fame has 146 members who originate from twenty-nine states in the U.S and eleven countries worldwide.
